The shock of an affair or infidelity can be devastating, whether you are in a committed or short-term relationship.

Betrayal, loss of trust, fear for the future, explaining what has happened to loved ones and navigating what comes next can feel overwhelming. You may feel unable to see the wood for the trees.

Questions can run through your mind: “What did I do wrong?”, “Can I ever trust again?”, “How could they do this to me?” and “Why?”

The effects on your physical wellbeing can include weight loss, lack of sleep, crying, nausea, irritability and paranoia. You are not imagining those physical effects.

You may want answers from your partner. You are entitled to ask questions and expect answers, but these conversations can be painful.

Relationships can be saved, but it takes work. You may be asking: “Do I want to end this relationship now?” or “Can we work to repair it?”
